Welcome to Helicon Literary & Arts Magazine’s 2024 Staff Issue! For over forty years, our magazine has published the art and writing of Northwestern’s undergraduate student body. Over the decades, this community of writers, artists, and poets has greatly inspired our staff, and in this issue, I am deeply ecstatic to share some of our staff’s own incredible works with you. Throughout the course of the 2023-2024 school year, our team has written and workshopped the pieces you will find in the following pages. They have meditated on family, mused on the concept of maturation, contemplated our natures and relationships, and so much more. Just as we have been inspired by myriad creators before us, I invite you to read through these pages and find a creative spark within yourself.
This magazine would not be possible without the support of Helicon’s community. We would like to extend our gratitude to Northwestern’s Creative Writing Department, whose sponsorship has ushered in a new era for the magazine. To the peers, family, friends, and alumni who read through our pages and inspire us to keep creating. To our donors, who have stood by our side time and again. To our incredible faculty advisor, Brian Bouldrey, whose commitment has nurtured this magazine since his own time as Editor-in-Chief. Finally, I would like to thank our staff, whose work is just a click away! This team is astoundingly talented and has proven deeply supportive, encouraging, and kind throughout the entire process of developing each other’s works. I look forward to seeing everything that every single one of you creates in the years ahead.
Thank you so much for reading this issue. Once again, I encourage you to inspire, and to let yourself become inspired. You never know what you can create until you begin.
