Emily Jahn

They say the clarity in the water
approximates heaven.

When we arrived I buried myself
in that cold grace, stroking my heart

with its clean shock and making
my red bones shiver.

I think eternity is a firm
nudge asking I open

my mouth to breathe in
some kind of answer. I will

lift myself to the dappled
surface, but in this instant

I feel a quiet, infinite hold,
the gentle press of the god

there must be
in stillness.
