Eleni Tecos

dear judas,
if nothing else, spare me from retribution,
release me from the vines of our sins,
soothe my aching wounds.
or if you have shame, let my blood fill your lungs –
a reckoning strangulation
to mirror the marring of my crown
as i bled for you.
[april, june, july.]

though i rose on the third day,
i am not naive to the choice you made
in kissing me, one cheek to the enemy:
a crucifixion at the mercy of your thorns.
and yet, i remained steadfast.
i did not admonish you, i did not tarnish your name.
even as you made a spectacle of my flesh,
touting me, martyring my body before the stones.

as my ruby stains dry, i can’t help
but wonder if it was worth it.
i hope you’re happy.
i hope your sadism is sated.
i hope your new idol is prepared to be desecrated.
