In the warm sun my eyes are closed
I see the blacks of my eyelids and the red of the sun
beaming across the right side of my face
through my hair and skin

In the warm sun I feel the tickling turf of crab
enveloping my head and legs and elbows,
brushing into my ears and filling my
nose with their neighbors’ fresh haircuts
like memory foam it melts me into the earth
There might be an ant or two crawling up my leg
but I don’t really care

In the warm sun I feel the brisk breeze wafting up my side
wrapping my torso like a sandwich of air and earth
My woven shirt like soggy bread as the cold air seeps through
I would be cold

In the warm sun her tiny figure lays curled up upon my chest
I smooth her back and ears and between her eyes and I feel
the heat of her body seeping through my
shirt and heart and it warms my core like the sun
can only come close and I’m too in love
with Life to think about this ending
